Eight points or four
Classic wind roses show the four cardinal directions long and the diagonals short, which reads instantly as navigation. Symmetrical eight-point stars look more like an emblem and suit logos, badges and patterned backgrounds.
Colour and weight
Solid black roses survive tiny sizes and single-colour printing, from stencils to tattoos. Two-tone and pastel versions carry an old-chart mood and belong on travel blogs, sailing club pages and adventure posters.
Placing it on a map
A wind rose usually sits in a corner of a map with north at the top. If the design turns the map, rotate the rose too; if it is only decoration, keep it upright so the long point still reads as north.

Real. We parse the PNG structure and keep only files with an alpha channel; anything with a painted-in background has been removed.
