A tornado funnel passing between two wind-bent trees is the only picture of moving air here. The rest is ink painting: koi with a large orange carp, shoals of small fish, a plum branch in blossom, swirling auspicious clouds in bright colours, heavy brush strokes, a blue ink drip, a brown seal with a tiger and a pair of goats.

Why wind looks like ink
Most of this category arrived through the Chinese term for "Chinese style", which machine translation renders word by word as "China wind". So instead of gusts and weathervanes you get the classic ink-painting repertoire: fish, clouds, blossom and seal stamps. Weather, temperature and the four seasons sit beside it in the Weather section and cover the actual forecast.
If you need real wind
The tornado with bending trees is the piece to use for storm warnings, insurance leaflets or a school weather chart. The coloured scroll clouds, drawn with curling tails, also suggest movement and can stand in for a breeze in a festive or Asian-themed design.
If you need Chinese style
Koi, plum blossom and the tiger seal carry wishes of plenty, endurance and protection in Chinese art and suit a tea shop menu, a lunar new year card or a calligraphy class poster. The brush strokes work as backdrops for a headline; place text over the flat black part.
