Finger or hand?
Finger sits in the People section right beside Hand, Arm and Face. The split is about gesture: here the pose of the fingers carries the meaning — pointing, counting, holding something small. If you need a whole hand as an object, such as a wave, a handshake or a palm print, the Hand category is wider.
Gestures that do a job
A pointing finger is interface furniture: it leads the eye to a button, a field or a line in a tutorial. Check which way it points before placing it, because a finger aimed off the page pulls attention away. Drawn hands survive a horizontal flip; photographs with a ring or a watch usually give themselves away.
Strays from the source
A stone idol, a ceremonial mask and a woman combing her hair came in through the source's tags and have little to do with fingers. Choose by what you see rather than by the label.
