Where it sits among the shapes
The Abstract section gives circles, spirals, spheres and geometric patterns categories of their own. This one takes what fits none of them: soft effects and irregular forms with no fixed outline. They work as atmosphere behind a headline, a collage or a product shot, not as the subject of the picture.
Testing a soft edge
Smoke and haze depend on partial transparency, and a careless cutout leaves a pale fringe. Drop the file onto a dark colour and onto white before committing: a clean one blends into both. Very faint wisps practically disappear on light backgrounds, so keep them for darker layouts or layer two copies to thicken them.
