Smartphone

Smartphone next to its neighbours

In Technology, Mobile phone also includes older push-button handsets and flip phones, and Tablet covers larger screens. Smartphone is the category for touch-screen devices: front and side views, hands holding a phone, frames for app screenshots, charging and camera close-ups.

Blank screens are the useful ones

A device with an empty black display works as a mock-up: drop an app screen, a website or a photo into the glass area and the result looks like a product shot. Phones showing a real interface are better for articles about a specific feature — but they date quickly.

What to check

Measure the screen area before building a mock-up; the proportions vary from model to model, and a stretched screenshot is obvious at once. Glossy reflections look good on light backgrounds but turn grey and muddy when the device sits on a dark one.
