Comic bubbles vs. chat icons
A comic balloon is meant to hold text: it is large, mostly empty and its tail points at whoever is speaking. A chat icon is a symbol — small, often with dots or lines inside, and it should stay legible at button size. Pick by that role rather than by colour.
Shape carries tone
In comics a smooth oval is ordinary speech, a jagged outline is shouting, and a cloud with little circles means a thought. The multicoloured set covers several of these at once, which is handy for storyboards and classroom worksheets.
Fitting your own text
Solid black bubbles take white type well; for light bubbles use dark text and leave a margin from the edge. Flip the image horizontally if the tail needs to point at a speaker on the other side.
