Animals of the twelve-year cycle
The pictures cover several signs in several traditions of drawing: bold octagon badges, a colourful calendar disc, delicate ink painting and a folk paper-cut. The calendar wheel is informative as well as decorative — it lists the years belonging to its animal.
Picking a style for the season
Paper-cuts in red are the classic Lunar New Year decoration for windows, cards and red envelopes. The octagon badges work as a matching set for horoscope pages or menu inserts in restaurants. Ink paintings suit calmer, more artistic designs such as calendars and wall prints.
Questions and answers
Is the transparency real or a painted checkerboard?
All 7 images carry a real alpha channel. On the image page you can switch the backdrop to white or dark to see the edges.
What sizes are available?
In chinese zodiac the sizes run from 600 to 1 200 px on the long side. Large ones are easiest to find with the “Largest” sort or the minimum-width filter.
Do I need to register to download?
No registration. The only limit is a few dozen files per minute per address, so the catalogue cannot be bulk-scraped.
What is the licence?
The catalogue gathers images from open sources. Before commercial use confirm the rights with the author — the source link is on the image page.
