The sun as a rayed disc, a smiling cartoon face, a sunrise lifting over water, an ornamental sunburst or a plain forecast symbol.

Nature first, forecast second
The sun is filed under Nature, next to sky, plants and landscape, even though it turns up on every weather map. The emphasis here is on the motif rather than the reading: warmth, summer, mornings, fresh starts. The simple “clear sky” icon is included, but so are decorative sunbursts and full sunrise scenes.
Picking the right sun
Ray layout sets the mood — evenly spaced points feel calm and official, wavy or uneven ones feel playful and childlike. Yellow-to-orange gradients glow on white but lose their edge on a warm background, so check contrast before placing. For small icons, choose a single-colour sun with a clear inner circle; the detailed, painterly ones need room to breathe.
