Where petal sits among the nature pages
Flower covers the whole bloom as a subject, plant and leaf deal with greenery, branch with the wood itself. Petal is for images where the colour of the blossom carries the picture: flowering sprigs, soft washes of pink, a single corolla seen close up.
Ink and wash, mostly
Much of what is here follows the East Asian brush tradition: a dark, dry-edged branch and blossoms dabbed on in one stroke each. These read best at large sizes on a pale background. Shrunk to a thumbnail, the fine twigs vanish and only pink dots remain.
Checking the cut-out
Painted blossom has semi-transparent edges, so the quality of the alpha channel matters more than usual. Place the file on a dark colour before using it: a clean export fades into the new background, a poor one leaves a pale fringe around every petal.
