Software, not the device
Technology already has Mobile phone and Computer for hardware. App is about what runs on it: icons for a home screen, parts of an interface, onboarding illustrations, pictograms for features. A phone may appear, but it is there to show the screen.
Icon sets need consistency
A settings page or a feature list uses a dozen icons at once. Pick them from one drawing family — the same stroke weight, corner radius and fill — or the row will look assembled from spare parts.
Small sizes are the real test
An app glyph is often shown at the size of a fingertip. Before choosing one, shrink it: fine detail and thin lines disappear first, and a symbol that relies on them stops being readable.
