Shadow among the effects
Light & Effects splits its overlays into Light, Fire, Smoke, Splash, Glitter and Magic. Shadow covers the opposite of light: silhouettes, drop shadows and the long-shadow style, all of which add depth without a single highlight.
Long-shadow icons
The two media buttons are drawn in the flat long-shadow manner: a white symbol on a blue tile, with a darker band running off diagonally to the tile edge. They work as a matched pair on a video player, a slideshow or a podcast page, and the style is easy to copy for the rest of the controls — play, pause, previous. Because the shadow is part of the tile, avoid adding a second drop shadow in the layout.
Pure silhouette
The butterfly is a single black shape with antennae, no inner lines. Such a silhouette can serve as a stencil, a cut-out for a paper lantern, a shadow cast on a wall in a composite, or a mask for a photo inside the wings.
