Its place among the icons
Notification bells, share icons and menu bars live in the same section. The gear has one job: it leads to preferences, options and configuration. For a general interface kit the user-interface category is broader; this one is for the single button everyone already knows.
Choosing a file
A gear reads well only when the teeth stay distinct, so check it at the size of a toolbar button. Long-shadow icons belong to one visual family; mixing them with glossy or outlined ones in a single row looks patchy.
